Before and after removal of large multicolor tattoo — South Florida Laser Studio

Laser Tattoo Removal by Type | All Colors & Ink Density

Not All Tattoos Are Created Equal

Some tattoos are easier to remove than others. The ink color, depth, and how long you’ve had the tattoo all affect removal difficulty and timeline.

Black Ink Tattoos (Easiest to Remove)

Black ink is the easiest to remove because it absorbs all laser wavelengths. Black tattoos typically require 4–8 sessions, show results quickly, cost less for complete removal, and have the highest success rate.

Red & Orange Ink (Moderate Difficulty)

Red and orange inks require specific laser wavelengths and typically need 6–10 sessions. They take slightly longer to fade but yield good results with our technology.

Black and dark inks respond fastest to laser treatment. Lighter colors like yellow, green, and blue may require additional sessions.

Blue & Green Ink (More Difficult)

Blue and green inks are stubborn and require 8–12+ sessions with a longer treatment timeline. Our advanced laser technology handles these colors effectively.

Yellow & White Ink (Very Difficult)

Yellow and white inks are the hardest to remove and may require 12–15+ sessions with slow fading. Complete removal may not be possible in all cases — we’ll be upfront during your consultation.

Multi-Color Tattoos

Tattoos with multiple colors require different laser wavelengths for each color, typically 10–15+ sessions, and a longer timeline. The results are worth it for full removal.

Professional vs. Amateur Tattoos

Professional tattoos (applied by a tattoo artist) have deeper and denser ink, making them more challenging with a longer removal timeline. Amateur tattoos (homemade, etc.) are often shallower with faster removal.

Old vs. New Tattoos

Old tattoos (5+ years) have partially faded naturally and require fewer sessions. New tattoos (under 1 year) have fresh, dense ink and need more sessions. Very new tattoos should wait 4–6 weeks before starting removal.

Eyebrow & Permanent Makeup (Specialized)

Eyebrow tattoos and permanent makeup require specialized care due to facial skin sensitivity. They typically need only 3–6 sessions. Learn more on our Eyebrow Tattoo Removal page.
